Hoyes, Bernard Stanley

Bernard Stanley Hoyes, a gifted artist hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, began honing his artistic talents from a young age. His mother sold his artwork to sustain their family, while residing with his great aunt in rural Jamaica, exposing him to diverse cultural influences. At 15, he relocated to New York City to live with his father and pursue his passion for art. Excelling in evening classes at the Art Students League, he studied under renowned artists, received scholarships, and actively engaged in the civil rights movement. During the 1970s, he concentrated on his “Rag Series,” depicting his artistic evolution. Following a stint as a designer in Los Angeles, he returned to his studio full-time, dedicated to his ongoing artistic endeavors.
